Dr. Ashot Gevorgyan
Email:
gevorgyan.ashot@uit.no
Ashot was born in Nor Yerznka, a small town in Armenia.
He obtained his MSc degree in pharmacology in 2011 from the department of chemistry, Yerevan State University.
After completing his masters thesis, he moved to Germany to pursue doctoral studies in the group of Prof.
Peter Langer, University of Rostock.
In 2015, he earned his PhD working on homogeneous catalysis and C-H functionalization of various heterocycles.
He then accomplished a 2 year postdoctoral studies in the group of Dr. Viktor O. Iaroshenko at the Center of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies in Lodz, Poland.
There, he developed novel strategies for the selective and sustainable reduction of organic substrates with silicon reagents.
In 2018, Ashot moved to UiT The Arctic University of Norway, where he carried out further postdoctoral studies in the group of Prof.
Kathrin H. Hopmann and Prof.
Annette Bayer.
He worked on the discovery of novel sustainable strategies for chemical fixation of CO
2
.
In 2021, he established his group at the department of chemistry, UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
Ashot is a DAAD scholar and holds a research grant from the Research Council of Norway.
Dr. Yalla Raju
Email:
raju.yalla@uit.no
Raju is from Hyderabad, India and works as a postdoctoral research fellow in Dr. Gevorgyan's group at UiT. He received doctoral degree in organic chemistry from Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT, Hyderabad) in 2020, where he worked on total synthesis of natural products. He also worked as associate scientist at Aragen Life Sciences, wherein he was involved in the design and synthesis of bioactive molecules possessing good activity against various viral diseases and neurodegenerative diseases (like Alzheimer's disease). Currently, his project at UiT involves the design of phosphine ligands from renewable starting materials and studying their activity in homogeneous catalysis.
MSc Lúcia Gonçalves Gameiro
Email:
lucia.goncalves-gameiro@universite-paris-saclay.fr
Lúcia Gonçalves Gameiro is from Paris, France and works as an intern in Dr. Gevorgyan's group at UiT. She is currently a first-year's master student at Paris-Saclay University where she specializes in Organic Chemistry and, hopes to pursue a doctoral degree in organic chemistry applied to pharmaceuticals. She has a Bachelor's in Chemistry-Biology from the University of Paris-Est Créteil during which she did an exchange program at Sogang University in South Korea. She studies the late-stage functionalization of commercial pharmaceuticals enabled by renewable homogeneous catalysts.
Alumni:
Dr. Danielle van der Westhuizen
Danielle worked with us in between 2021-2022. Her work involved the synthesis of phosphine ligands and studying their suitability for homogeneous catalysis. Presently she is working as a scientific associate at Charles River Laboratories, Scotland.
